The
Guayaquil Airport Authority (AAG), represented by its President, Luis Carrera del Río, and Director General, Nicolás Romero Sangster, are in charge of managing the José Joaquín de Olmedo Airport of Guayaquil, which was chosen in August 2012 as the best of its type in the world for terminals that receive between 2 and 5 million passengers per year, at a ceremony organized in Singapore by the Airports Council International (ACI).
The key mission of the AAG is to safeguard the contract for the running of Guayaquil’s airport and create an atmosphere in which the effective and efficient future development of the airport exists. The AAG also currently manages the future plan to design Guayaquil’s new airport in the Chongón-Daular area. The American company Mitre, a leader in its field, has drawn up its final conclusions on airworthiness to the AAG so that it can move forward with its plan to build the airport.
The main conclusion that Mitre outlines in its study is that the Daular-Chongón site is exceptional from an aeronautical and meteorological point of view.
The future airport at Chongón-Daular will house three parallel runways, something only six airports worldwide can currently boast |
The future airport can house three parallel runways that would be capable of operating simultaneously, thus guaranteeing enough capacity for the rest of the 21st century. Currently there are only six airports in the world with this capacity, all in the United States.
TAGSA is a private company that was set up to administrate the Joaquín Olmedo airport on the February 16, 2004, for a period of 50 years. The partners in this organization are: Dellair Services S.A., Corporación América S.A. (CASA) and Ormond Group S.A., that operate under the laws of Ecuador, Argentina and Panama.
Once the concession was handed to Corporación América, TAGSA was set up as a private company with the aim of operating and managing the airport. The concession was signed on February 27, 2004, between TAGSA and AAG for a period of 15 years and 6 months. At a later date the period was extended until July 2024.
