The state of Yucatan is growing a stronger, more self-sustaining economy thanks to institutions such as
Anahuac Mayab University (
UAM). Founded in 1984, the uni-versity encourages local technology development, entrepreneurship and innovation among both its students and the local business community, key aspects for boosting growth in a region traditionally hampered by marginalization and geographic isolation, says Father Jose Maria Sabin Sabin, president.
UAM is earning a reputation beyond Yucatan as a prestigious and increasingly international center of higher learning. It’s a member of the Association of Independent California Colleges & Universities, and collaborates with University of Portland, University of Miami, Harvard, Stanford, M.I.T., as well as various other universities around the world.
“This is a university anchored in a rich and diverse cultural environment, where one can learn about the Mayan culture, open up to other languages and live multicultural experiences,” says Father Jose Maria. “Each and every day, more of our students are linked to local businesses to develop projects. UAM is a dynamic university that encourages growth in education, business and government with a global vision.”
