Aero Contractors Nigeria

Article - December 12, 2012
Aero Contractors Nigeria is the oldest enterprise in Nigeria and its first registered aviation company. It is also the biggest airline in the domestic market. As Aero looks to become Nigeria's regional hub for aviation, it works with advantages of market leadership, geography, and a catchment area of Africa's largest population

Taking West Africa’s airline of the year to the next level of quality and recently awarded Category 1 by the FAA, Aero is an indication that from a safety point of view, Nigeria itself meets international standards. It has garnered such credentials by consistency. The company has done business every six to eight weeks for 20 to 30 years with international oil companies (IOCs) where safety is paramount. With hard work and accolades, it is forcing the whole airline industry to raise standards.

Aero won West African Airline of the Year in 2011 and intends to further the quality of what it offers by working with the government on what it calls an ‘enabling environment’. There will be a visible shift by next year in what the public is offered, with more planes, helicopters and corporate jets. There will also be increased services to the Nigerian public and continued dedication to reasonable pricing structures.

The company is working with economic banking reforms and foreign investment to expand service across Africa and Europe. The company is building up a Lagos hub and has encountered ECOWAS sub-regional state protectionism by committee partnership and a plan to improve transportation in all ECOWAS member states.

Management at Aero is thinking ahead and will expand the company to cater to Nigeria’s 200 million population by 2020. With its value-for-money pricing structure it has increased the amount of people flying in Nigeria. It stands unmatched, maintaining a load factor of 83 per cent and a 20 per cent market share in the oil and gas sector.
