As a student worker I started my career in banking but after few weeks I realized that I needed more space and accidently ventured in radio and television journalism for almost a decade. I went back to management with special interest in human resource management and business consulting. Gradually I went up the ladder and after years of academic preparation and practical experience, I started consulting businesses in Malta and abroad. In the course of my career I have consulted and lectured in different continents including South America, Asia, Africa and Europe. I ventured into business at the age of 28 by setting the first academic Coop in Malta. After some years I moved with other partners in setting up a private business incubator and eventually moved on in setting up my own advisory agency. I lectured in business management, human resource management and development, change management and managing cultural diversity, among other areas, and authored books and papers in refereed journals. I am the appointed President of the Board of Governors for the College of Arts Science and Technology.

What have been the main lessons you have learned in your career and how do you implement them in your management?
My management career has been a learning experience throughout. To start off with, management is generally a thankless job, which requires patience, perseverance and excellent communication skills. A good manager attributes success to others around him or her but assumes responsibility for failures. Different lessons have taught me that success does not come easy and requires hard work, vision and ability to work within a team. The biggest lesson I learned is that the higher one goes in the organization hierarchy, the less control he or she has over others. Managing from the top requires vision, confidence building and commitment.
Mentors
I have had few but very important mentors in my life.
My parents showed me the joy of life and taught me that honesty is the best policy.
My wife is the best manageress – she handles a multi-faceted life to perfection and mentors me how to multi-task.
My children mentors me to keep fresh and venture into new ideas.
