Geocapital investing in the world

Article - September 14, 2012
Geocapital has investments in a wide range of economic areas, most importantly the financial sector
The company’s M.O. is to buy a stake or form a partnership with a local bank, and then use that as a base to move into other areas.

In Guinea-Bissau, for example, Geocapital first took over the country’s biggest bank, Banco da Africa Occidental. Its next step was to set up a new company, named Geogolfo, to operate in the agricultural-industrial sector and produce biofuels.

Geocapital is determined to have a presence in agrobusiness and has made investments in the sector in numerous countries including Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde and Mozambique.

In cooperation with other partners, Geocapital has set up a research and development project in Cape Verde that will take advantage of the island country’s experience growing jatropha, a plant that will be used to make fuel.

The company has set up a jatropha plantation in Guinea-Bissau that will also supply the raw material, and the construction of a jatropha refinery plant is also being studied.

In Mozambique, Geocapital followed its usual pattern and first set up a financial institution called Moza Banco, and through it is studying investments in several different sectors, including mining, hydroelectric and agriculture.
