Fakieh’s top five holiday developments

Article - September 16, 2011
Hospitality comes with an innovative spirit at the five tourism developments created in Jeddah by the Fakieh Group
AL NAMRAS ISLAND RESORT IS AN ISLET-STYLE RETREAT AND FEATURES THE PRESTIGIOUS CONCH-SHAPED AL WADAA RESTAURANT
The diversified portfolio of the Fakieh Hospitality and Leisure Group offers a one-stop catalogue of activities and accommodation to choose from for the growing number of tourists visiting Jeddah. Established in 1998, the company has created five major tourism developments in Jeddah that are proving to be increasingly popular with families holidaying here, especially after the Hajj and during Eid. Fakieh, nevertheless, has designed each project to feature a range of attractions for everyone.

The nautical-themed Al Segala in South Obhur is one of the city’s finest restaurants and is particularly renowned for its seafood dishes and Middle Eastern barbecued fare.

In addition to the menu, the distinctive architectural design and enviable seafront views also distinguish the restaurant from other eateries. Located at the end of a pier overlooking Obhur Creek, Al Segala offers diners a retreat from the city traffic, set in luxurious wooden décor resembling a ship’s deck.

Among the main attractions at Fakieh’s family-friendly Sail Island Aqua Park are the swimming pools designed specifically with kids in mind, which feature slides, water fountains and safe play areas. An arcade centre keeps gaming enthusiasts entertained, while the spacious ballroom facility can be used for social events such as weddings, conferences and private parties.

The group’s Sea Wonders Aquarium on Jeddah’s Corniche Road enables visitors to take a captivating and educational journey into the deep. The unique $40 million (£25 million) project contains four integrated zones: the main aquarium building, a dolphinarium complete with 490-seat stadium, an outdoor plaza and restaurant, and a multi-storey car park.

The aquarium leads visitors right into the heart of marine life. The amazing sensation of gradually diving into the sea is created by passing through the immersion room, mangrove zone and coral reef zone. The feeling of adventure is further enhanced by exploring the Dhow Wreck area in the middle of the route.High-tech educational halls are also on site providing useful information about the wonders and secrets of the marine world.

The largest amusement complex in the kingdom, Al Shalal Theme Park has something for everyone. It boasts the largest double-looped roller coaster in the Asian continent, seven restaurants, a variety of entertainment areas and an Amazon jungle, complete with life-sized animal figures and amazing light and sound effects. The jungle is inside a two-storey entertainment building in the centre of the park, which also holds a popular ice rink.

Fakieh’s Al Nawras Island Resort, which is managed by the Mövenpick group, is located on a private island off the North Corniche Road. Close to the famous Tahlia shopping district, it is just 15 minutes by car to the city centre and ten minutes to the airport. Guests at each of the 100 studios and villas at the gated community can enjoy their own swimming pool and garden, which offer privacy and magnificent sea views.
