EG LNG continues outstanding performance

The company produces some 3.7 million metric gross tons of liquefied natural gas a year

From the Alba field, approximately 650 million cubic feet a day (gross) of the dry gas remaining after the condensate and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) are removed is supplied to the EG LNG facility on Bioko Island, where it is used to manufacture 3.7 million metric gross tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) per year.

In 2002, the operators of the Alba gas field in the Gulf of Guinea (Marathon Oil and GEPetrol) decided to establish the EG LNG Train 1 facility as a means to further monetize gas production from the field. Inaugurated just five years later, in 2007, the EG LNG plant was one of the world’s fastest-built LNG projects.

“The plant was built very quickly after the plans were developed, not only due to a good execution plan, but also because the government was involved as a partner and they helped facilitate the project,” says EG LNG Managing Director, William Wheeler.

“We are now utilizing gas from Alba field and turning it into LNG, which allows the gas to be monetized and exported, virtually eliminating the flaring of gas.”

In 2013, EG LNG continued to demonstrate operational excellence, with world-class operational, reliability, safety and environmental performance. Highlights for the year included achieving operational availability of 97%, exceeding the company’s annual delivery program target and shipping eight extra LNG cargoes with zero lost time or recordable injuries.
