Mexico’s top of mind optical retail chain expands to U.S. Hispanic market
FRANK J. DEVLYN, PRESIDENT OF DEVLYN OPTICAL
Devlyn Opticos (www.devlyn.com.mx), a family-owned, multinational optical retailer with operations in Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador and the USA, will be celebrating in September 75 years of constant proven leadership in the optical retail market in Latin America.

Their store network consists of more than 900 stores located in approximately 120 major cities in the region with some 300 stores situated inside grocery retailers and departments stores such as Walmart, Sears, HEB, Famsa and Sam’s. All these major retailers have for years seen the benefits of using and taking advantage of the
Devlyn name to add value to their customers by providing high quality optical products and services at an affordable price.

The Devlyn brand enjoys a commanding dominance in consumers’ minds when it comes to eyeglasses, contact lenses and related eye care products and services. As a result of this, last year the company partnered with Genomma Lab, the largest pharmaceutical and personal care product manufacturer in Latin America, to develop a line of vision care products (eye drops, vitamins, eye lotions, etc.) all with the Devlyn brand. The products are now sold successfully in the most important grocery retailers and drug store chains in Mexico and will soon be available in the U.S. and other major markets of Central and South America.

The Devlyn Group is also levering its brand’s top of mind among consumers to access new markets. There are currently 41.9 million Hispanics in the U.S. and half the population is concentrated in just two states – California and Texas – where close to 70% of them are from Mexican descent and are familiar with the Devlyn brand. Several retailers that cater to the Hispanic market, such as Famsa, have recognized the value and nostalgia market opportunity that the Devlyn brand brings to their customers and they have successfully added optical departments with the Devlyn name. As a result, Devlyn is now planning an aggressive rollout of stores in Texas and California under a variety of formats, which go from managing optical departments in the stores of major retailers as well as in free standing locations.

Jesse W. Devlyn Jr. is leading this new venture by the Devlyn Group and you may contact him at jesse@devlyn.com.mx for more information.
