Koichi Nakao joined Takara Shuzo Co., Ltd. (now, Takara Holdings Inc.) in 1985 and engaged in the biomedical business. In 2002, he was appointed to the Board of Directors of Takara Bio, Inc., established as a result of a corporate separation. In 2009, he took the positions of President of Takara Bio, Inc. and Takara Bio USA Holdings, Inc., as well as Chairman of Takara Biotechnology (Dalian) Co., Ltd. and Takara Biomedical (Beijing) Inc. His current positions also include serving as Director of Takara Holdings Inc. and Takara Bio Europe AB, and Chairman of Takara Korea Biomedical Inc.
