Business Description
Square Enix Holdings Co., Ltd., with headquarters in Tokyo, Japan, is a holding company leading the Group with a diverse range of content and service businesses. The Group publishes, distributes and licenses entertainment content around the world through a global network of leading development studios located in North America, Europe and Japan. The Group also boasts a valuable portfolio of internationally renowned franchises including: Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Tomb Raider, and the legendary Space Invaders.
Background
Established as the Enix Corporation in 1975, Enix merged with Square Co., Ltd., and Square Enix Co., Ltd. was formed in 2003. In 2008, Square Enix changed its corporate name to Square Enix Holdings Co., Ltd. as the result of its conversion to the holding company system and transferred its business operations to a newly established company: Square Enix Co., Ltd. To date, the Group has carried out several acquisitions of other game companies, such as the Japan-based Taito Corporation in 2005 and the UK-based Eidos Plc. in 2009.
