Organization Description
The Rwanda Stock Exchange (RSE) is an organized and regulated financial market where securities are bought and sold at prices governed by the forces of demand and supply.
Background
The Rwanda Stock Exchange Limited was incorporated on October 7, 2005, with the objective of carrying out stock market operations. The stock exchange was demutualized from the start as it was registered as a company limited by shares. The company was officially launched on January 31, 2011.
Services
Rwanda Stock Exchange is a self-regulated organization (SRO). It aims to:
- Bring companies and investors together so that investors can invest in companies, and companies can utilize capital raised to invest in projects such as expansion, new product development, modernization etc.
- Offer a ready market for the purchase and sale of securities, thereby providing investors with a means of selling their investment should they wish to do so.
- Assist shareholders in realizing the value of their shares in cash when they sell a portion of their holdings.
- Facilitate share, bid and offer tenders in case of takeover.

- Investment analysis and portfolio managemnt
- International finance
- Business laws
The RSE has become an influencer due to its qualified personnel and good leadership and governance.

Organization Goals & Objectives
- Providing a market place for shares already issued in the primary market to change hands on the exchange’s trading floor through licensed broker/dealers.
- Creating liquidity whereby securities can be converted into cash at a market price and investors can, with relative ease, hold wealth in terms of liquid cash by either buying or selling shares.
- Providing a mechanism for price discovery because the price is determined when offers and bids match on the trading board.
- Facilitating the privatization of parastatals, which are being restructured by the government through the privatization program.
- Creating an avenue for indigenous people to attain a stake in privatized companies.
- Assisting companies in need of funds to raise long-term capital for their developments.
- Facilitating savings for low-income earners through collective investment schemes.
- Aiding the government in raising funds for long-term development projects through the issue of long-term debt instruments.
