In 2011 Angola again assumes the presidency of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC). Last December, President Jacob Zuma pledged South Africa’s full support when Angolan President Jose Eduardo Dos Santos takes over the reins.
According to Dr. Albina Faria de Assis Pereira Africano, Special Advisor to the President for Regional Affairs, Angola will significantly contribute to the stability and security of the region. Speaking at the 4th Broad Consultative Council of the Foreign Ministry (MIREX) earlier this month, Dr. Africano said an example could be seen in the diplomatic position adopted by Angola on the recent crisis in Cote d’Ivoire, which encouraged dialogue and negotiation.
Dr. Africano, one of the highest-ranking women ministers in Africa and esteemed for her technical knowledge, has overseen the tremendous expansion of the oil sector. She represented Angola at Shanghai’s Expo 2010 and is the commissioner for the 2012 Expo in South Korea.
