I was born and raised in Nyirangarama, Rwanda. Instead of looking for a job somewhere else I decided to go into farming and agricultural activities, as I saw it as an interesting source of income.
In 1983 I started with a small shop oriented to agriculture products. I specialized in fruits that were not found in this region.
In 1985 we started with a bakery, but as there were many bakeries in the area we started in 1987 with a higher quality donut called Urwibutso, which means “gift” in Kinyarwanda and is the name of our company.
Goals
My goal is to be extraordinary and popular, applying innovation and modernization in our activities.
I founded a school to leave a legacy; I want to be remembered for my commitment to the younger generations.
After starting with our Urwibutso donut, we started with other projects: we diversified into juices, wines, jams, water, yoghurts, etc. My ambition is to introduce a new product each year.
Professional Advice
Young entrepreneurs have to be proactive and create their own chances; they don’t have to wait for the government or other people, but instead work to create their own opportunities.
