Michell has been practicing law since 1977, advising foreign investors on doing business in Mexico. Experience

Michell’s main areas of work are structured and acquisition finance, debt and corporate restructurings, M&A, banking regulatory and real estate. He advised the US Department of the Treasury on the US$20 billion emergency financial package provided to the Mexican government in 1995.

Michell has participated in multiple financial transactions, including intangibles, real estate, telecommunication networks, infrastructure, and power plants.

He has worked on a number of the largest debts restructurings in Mexico including AHMSA, GEO, URBI Comerci and Grupo Mexico. He has worked in a number of leveraged acquisitions, representing lenders or purchasers of listed companies in Mexico in the textile, steel and telecommunications industries, and has advised clients in multiple acquisitions and divestitures of banks, pension funds, insurance, telephony, real estate companies and mainstream energy assets.

He has been very active in capital markets deals, representing sponsors of Fibras, CKDs and issuers of bonds in Mexican and global offerings.

He advised the Mexican government on creating the structure for public-private partnerships for Mexican infrastructure projects, and has worked extensively with local governments in the development of their legal and regulatory frameworks for public-private partnerships.

He has also pioneered a number of real estate debt and equity structures in Mexico, including the representation of the lender in the largest real estate financing ever done in Mexico, and of the financial investor in the creation of the first Mexican land bank.

Michell has been recognized by the main legal magazines and publications as an extraordinary lawyer due to his expertise.
