The Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago has been divided into separate business units which include:
1.Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago Governing Unit (PATTGU).
2.Port of Spain Infrastructure Company (POSINCO) – the landlord unit.
3.Port of Port of Spain (PPOS) – the cargo handling unit.
4.Trinidad and Tobago Inter-Island Transportation Company (TTIT) – the inter-island ferry service.
The Port of Port of Spain (PPOS) is the cargo handling business unit of the Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago. PPOS provides berthing of international container vessels, breakbulk, roll-on/roll-off, dry and liquid/bulk cargo vessels, as well as towage services, container freight services and warehousing, and a one-stop barrel shop for clearance and delivery of personal effects.
The new equipment fleet has been increased and PPOS now has: five ship-to-shore gantry cranes, 15 rubber-tyred gantries including five new ones, and approximately 20 trucks/chassis. There is also additional reefer equipment, with approximately 250 units now in place to attract more international reefer transhipment.
Geographically, PPOS is strategically located for maritime traffic, with a natural sheltered harbour on Trinidad’s north-western coast. Together with a skilled workforce, modern equipment and technology, PPOS is positioned to be the transhipment hub of the South/Eastern Caribbean and North Coast of South America.
