The company was launched in 1994 as a joint venture between MultiChoice Africa and Adewunmi Ogunsanya, a Nigerian entrepreneur. HISTORY:

MultiChoice Nigeria started operations in 1994 and the company can claim a number of firsts in Nigeria:
 The first digital satellite broadcaster
 The first to be granted a license by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) as a Direct-To-Home (DTH) provider
 The first to commission a DTH television uplink facility
 The first to launch a dual view decoder (2003) and dual view PVR (2006) and HD PVR (2009)
 The first to launch free-to-air (FTA) television and radio broadcasters on satellite; carrying a total of eight FTA broadcasters (five television and three radio services) on its platform for free
 The first to carry a 24-hour Nigerian news channel (NN24)
 The first to commission a fully “made for Africa” channels with the range of AfricaMagic channels
 A pioneer in mobile television, having launched the first DVB-H network in Nigeria, and
