KONGO CENTRAL PROVINCE

about this company

Background

Kongo Central, previously called Bas-Congo, is one of 26 provinces of the Democratic Republic of Congo. As the westernmost province and the only one with access to the ocean, Kongo Central province has historically played an important role in DRC’s development, with 90% of imported and exported goods passing through the province’s two main ports, Matadi and Boma. The 53,930m2 (20,820 square miles) province bordering Angola has a population of approximately 4.9 million people.

Since Governor Jacques Mbadu began his tenure in 2013, he has played an important role in the province’s drive to diversify its economy and become less dependent on the central government.  The province has received $1.5 billion in foreign direct investment in the last three years alone in energy, industry, agriculture and other key sectors of the economy.
