Background
Ever since the launch in 1922 of the nutritious, fortified Glico caramel in its distinctive red box, the business activities of Ezaki Glico Co., Ltd. adhered to the corporate philosophy of “Enhancing Public Health through Food.” Upon the 70th anniversary of the Glico Group in 1992, this same spirit and dedication was incorporated into the revised corporate philosophy of “A Wholesome Life in the Best of Taste.”

Competitive Advantages
The founder – Riichi Ezaki – produced and started sales of caramels containing glycogen, a substance found in oysters. Glico has since then been producing a variety of unique products in the market making best use of our creativeness and originality.
A typical example is Pocky. Pocky was developed when the idea was suggested of coating the already popular Pretz pretzel-like stick snack treat with chocolate. At first, the sticks were manually dipped leaving an uncoated portion at one end, so that they could be held without having to worry about the fingertips becoming soiled. As demand increased, however, manual processing could no longer keep up. As a result, the innovation and engineers was could no longer keep up. As a result, the innovation and creativity of engineers was fired up to develop a “Glico-Original” manufacturing plant.
The accumulation of all such ideas, production technologies, and technical know-how serves as the base for being able to offer unique products unavailable from any competitor.
Company Goals & Objectives
From the launch of the nutritious Glico caramel in its distinctive red box, we have thought deeply about the role our food products play. What we visualize is a family gathered around a dinner table. Every member of that family – especially the children – is laughing and smiling with joy while enjoying the meal. Smiles like theirs are what we would like to deliver to everyone through the products we create innovatively. This is the happiness people can achieve through wholesome, tasteful food.
