For more than two decades, Wooriro has been helping shape a future where light itself carries the world’s most secure information. As a pioneer in South Korea’s photonics industry, the company is pushing the boundaries of quantum communication and developed ultra-sensitive sensors that enable data to move faster, safer and smarter across global networks.

With technologies spanning quantum encryption, LiDAR, and advanced photonics for defense and mobility, Wooriro stands at the threshold of a new era where photons, not electrons, define the pace of innovation.

Eugene Park, President, WOORIRO

One of Wooriro’s strengths lies in its mastery of Single Photon Avalanche Diode (SPAD) technology—ultra-sensitive sensors capable of detecting individual photons. These sensors form the backbone of quantum key distribution (QKD) systems, providing unrivaled security in next-generation communication. The company currently holds a leading share of the global SPAD market and is working closely with international partners to expand commercialization.

In autonomous driving, Wooriro’s InGaAs/InP-based (indium gallium arsenide/indium phosphide) SPADs are enabling breakthroughs in LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging). Operating at a wavelength of 1550 nm, these sensors deliver both long-range detection and eye safety, supporting safer and smarter vehicles. Collaborations with domestic automotive developers are paving the way for WOORIRO to become a key supplier in the mobility sector.

WOORIRO’s vertically integrated infrastructure, from chip fabrication to module assembly, ensures speed, flexibility and resilience in global supply chains. “Our high-sensitivity sensor technology is more than a product,” President Eugene Park says. “It is a platform for future innovation in communication, mobility and defense.”

Looking forward, WOORIRO aims to expand its presence overseas, foster new partnerships and continue investing in advanced emerging technologies. WOORIRO is poised to become a total solutions provider for the industries shaping tomorrow.
