The popular hotel chain just opened a new establishment in Bata amidst exciting branding changes in the company
HOTEL IBIS BATA

This year, acclaimed hotel chain Ibis, boasting 4,299 hotels worldwide, has opened its second hotel in Equatorial Guinea, in its largest city of Bata.

Hotel Ibis Bata, a 120-room establishment located just under four miles from this coastal city’s airport, was inaugurated earlier this year and began by hosting the organizing committee during the Africa Cup of Nations, an important soccer event.

The Managing Director of the hotel, Vincent Masvidal, notes that everything was prepared in advance, but that opening a hotel with such an important event was a huge challenge.

“I can tell you it has been a great adventure,” remarks Mr. Masvidal. “At the same time, it was a great opportunity to showcase our hotel.”

The opening of the hotel also marks the beginning of the Ibis franchise’s new $204-million branding model worldwide, where each establishment will implement new signage, a unique design of the common areas and upgraded bedding, among other things. The company is also publicizing its versatility: “The key feature of our hotel group is that it is the only global group that covers the whole range of hotel segments, from luxury to budget hotels,” says Mr. Masvidal, adding that brand changes will be completed by 2013.

Another Ibis hotel was built in the Equatorial Guinea’s capital of Malabo, highlighting the beginning of a tourism boom to the African country. Mr. Masvidal points out the two Ibis hotels’ contributions to the country’s economy by training a local workforce, buying supplies from the local market and attracting tourists.

“Having a hotel in Bata makes it part of the worldwide hotel community. As a consequence people are made aware of the existence of Equatorial Guinea and might be interested in discovering it,” he says.
