Environmentally sound solutions

Article - March 7, 2013
Not only does Soroof International have an environmental conscience, but it is also progressive, thanks to its strong leadership and innovative strategies. Soroof is going from strength to strength in the oil and gas industry
Soroof International is a Saudi Arabian company offering on-site oilfield services for drilling contractors. The company’s founder and President, Prince Bander bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Saud, is growing his company using cutting-edge technology while also employing a high regard for the environment.

The company provides professional, customer-oriented consultancy services in oil and gas engineering in response to a rapidly expanding market, especially in Saudi Arabia. Soroof International’s mission is to provide advanced and sustainable integrated solutions that will lead to a knowledge-based economy.

“There is a conscious effort towards environmentally sound solutions in Saudi Arabia,” says Prince Bander. “People consider the environment in all their activities. The wheel has turned as far as this is concerned.”
“Soroof in arabic means change, continuous change, and the name i chose reflects my core beliefs.”

Aside from Soroof’s primary goal of being environmentally conscious, the company strives to be progressive and innovative. “Soroof in Arabic means change, continuous change, and the name that I chose reflects my core beliefs,” explains Prince Bander. “I started the company in 2002 with firm but modest goals. The second goal is to promote our own technology-based products and services.”

Soroof International doesn’t shy away from challenges and thrives on serving previously neglected niche markets. Prince Bander is also working hard to build strategic alliances and distribution agreements with world leaders to create a powerful portfolio of high technology products. But no matter how fast the company develops, one of the core values will always be to maintain customer-centric philosophies, and to contribute to the community.

In line with the government’s ambitious economic development plans, Soroof International is a company in the lead in terms of helping to change Saudi Arabia’s economy to one based on knowledge. “My vision for the company is to be a constant source of innovation,” professes Prince Bander. “Soroof develops and promotes Saudi-made technologies for global application.”

Soroof’s president is hoping to lead by example and encourage other Saudi Arabians to become producers rather than consumers.

Soroof International has already come a long way. When the company was initially formed, it began with the energy division, Soroof Power, and following extensive research, other subsidiaries and partners were added. In 2003, Soroof International was launched, which is made up of several companies and joint ventures.

The core sectors today are CIT, energy (power, oil and gas), and water. “We have been doing well in the water sector,” says Prince Bander. “We are using our very own patented water treatment system and winning contracts in competition with internationally acclaimed systems on the basis of quality, quantity, costs and maintenance. Apart from our activities in industrial and municipal wastewater treatment, we are also looking to convert sea water to potable water. That is something we have in the pipeline.”

The company is also currently developing the very first 100% Saudi-made engine. “We are at the stage of developing a prototype compressor which is being tested by FEV, Inc. in Aachen, Germany,” explains the president. “It is a quantum leap in terms of output and size, and will serve as the core of the engine that we are looking to produce. In terms of power consumption it will consume an estimated 25% less electricity to produce an equivalent output of a conventional compressor.”

The Soroof International group of companies as a whole prides itself on using evolving technologies to find solutions to challenges at the foundation of society. Whether it is the requirement for energy in rural areas or drinking water in desert lands, Soroof has set out to become a leader in making environmentally friendly technologies work for the good of all.
