Luxury, warmth and service

Article - December 10, 2012
Nestled in the heart of the government area of Lagos is Southern Sun Ikoyi, part of Africa's leading hotel group, Tsogo Sun

Built on the site of the Ikoyi Hotel – the first hotel to open in Nigeria, back in 1928 – the Southern Sun is a nine-storey modern yet welcoming establishment that gives a nod to its historical roots.

“We are well aware that this hotel has a strong bearing in the minds of many Nigerians and as a result, we have tried to embrace the historical theme as is reflected in the photographs we have all over the hotel,” explains Mark Loxley, the hotel’s General Manager.

The hotel’s contemporary décor gives off a feeling of warmth, which is solidly backed up by discrete services and Southern Sun’s trademark hospitality. Rooms are luxuriously appointed with modern amenities, and the common areas are invitingly designed to be both admired and utilised. The hotel’s state-of-the-art conference facilities are equipped with everything to make business meetings run as smoothly as possible. The dining experience at Southern Sun Ikoyi is no less noteworthy. Top chefs prepare exquisite cuisine that can be enjoyed both inside and on the terrace. Sundays at the hotel stand out particularly, with a special Sunday brunch menu that varies every week.

Opened in 2009, Southern Sun Ikoyi quickly picked up various accolades, including Best Four-Star Hotel (Gold), Best New Hotel (Platinum) and General Manager/CEO of the Year at the 2010 West Africa Tourism and Hospitality Awards. At the following year’s edition, Southern Sun Ikoyi was once again recognised as an African standard, winning Best Four-star Hotel (Gold), Best Fine Dining Restaurant (Platinum) and Best CEO (Platinum).
