Whether it’s personal protection equipment (PPE) for firefighters or gas masks for soldiers, Hancom Lifecare has sought to make the world a safer place since 1971.

Fast forward 53 years and the company boasts an extensive network, with coverage in over 45 countries, including the U.S. and nations in Europe and the Middle East.

“We’re a technology-driven company with 186 patents,” CEO Byung Jin Oh explains, “and in South Korea our 95 percent domestic market share reflects both our reliability and the quality of our products.”

Listed on the Korean stock exchange in August 2021, Hancom Lifecare Inc. (372910.KS) is perhaps best known for its self-contained breathing apparatus (SBCA), supplying protective respiratory equipment that is used by firefighters across the country.

Right now, the firm is in the midst of adapting its equipment with a view to entering new markets overseas.

As Mr. Oh notes, however, these things take time. “It’s difficult to pinpoint a single product that will best respond to future demand, but our mission at Hancom Lifecare is to address even the smallest disasters with preventive solutions.”

Meanwhile, a recent cultural shift has seen the company redefine itself as adaptable and forward-thinking, breaking free of the conservatism that once informed its approach.

Mr. Oh again: “The industry’s conservative nature has traditionally limited cooperation among companies, but we’re actively building alliances, domestically and internationally, to accelerate progress.”

Progress which will help Hancom Lifecare in its bid to create a safer world.
