Luanda to host forum on Cuando Cubango in September

Following success of the July forum, the Governor of the Province, General Francisco Higino Lopes Carneiro, said that there was an urgent need to hold a similar event in the capital, and that this Luanda forum would help to create more investment opportunities for Cuando Cubango.

Attended by more than 500 local and foreign businessmen and number of ministers and state governors, the second Cuando Cubango Economic Forum in late July highlighted the economic potential and multiple investment opportunities in the province, particularly in the areas of tourism and agribusiness.

The forum was divided into four panels – the first focusing on crop production, which was coordinated by the local deputy governor Ernesto Kiteculo. Other panels addressed topics such as tourism development, farming and cattle rearing factor and the forestry industry.

The Economy Minister, Abraão Gourgel, said that the hosting of the 2nd Economic Forum of Cuando Cubango was an opportunity to elevate the economic potential and multiple opportunities of investment of the region. Gourgel also congratulated the government of the local government of Cuando Cubango for its preparation of the Tourism Master Plan.

"This is to show to potential investors in this sector, and the world in general, one of the most important collections and unknown environmental and landscape resources that we know of, with proven ability to sustainable and capable of generating immense socio exploration benefits the economic Cuando Cubango" he said.

Untied World met with Cuando Cubango Governor Francisco Higino Lopes Carneiro, who said that the province, once the poorest in Angola, is undergoing an economic revolution. “In the past, Cuando Cubango was the least developed province in Angola, so much so that it was known as the ‘Land at the End of the World’ because there really were no roads or any basic infrastructure. Today, we want to build approximately 4,000 kilometers of roads until 2017, and the last two years represented a great economic revolution for the province.”
