South Korean AI data platform company Dtonic (CEO Yongjoo Jeon) has officially entered the Malaysian smart city sector, introducing its advanced AI-powered solutions to address urban mobility challenges in the capital city of Kuala Lumpur.

The company announced today that it has launched its Edge AI and Data Hub-Based Smart Parking Pilot Project in partnership with the South Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL). The kickoff event was held at the InterContinental Hotel Kuala Lumpur.

Under this initiative, Dtonic will provide real-time parking information and predictive parking availability services in response to increasing traffic congestion caused by population growth and rising tourism in Kuala Lumpur.

At the heart of the project are Dtonic’s proprietary platforms: D.Edge, which utilizes edge AI to process video data from existing CCTV infrastructure in real time at the site level; and D.Hub, a centralized data platform that integrates, standardizes, governs, and tracks data lineage across various urban data sources.

Beyond this project, Dtonic is pursuing broader partnerships across Southeast Asia. During its recent visit, the company engaged in discussions with more than 10 government agencies and private sector partners in Malaysia to explore further deployment of its AI data platform technology.

Dtonic has already built a strong track record in the global smart city arena. Its portfolio includes AI-powered data hubs for numerous municipalities in South Korea, as well as international smart city projects such as:

  • A smart integrated control system in Hue, Vietnam
  • An ICT-based integrated air quality management system in Mongolia
  • A smart parking pilot project in Santander, Spain

Additionally, Dtonic provides its D.Eview digital transformation and AI-powered Electronic Shelf Label (ESL) solutions to leading retailers in Japan, the Middle East, and Vietnam.

“Many Southeast Asian countries are accelerating their adoption of smart city technologies,” said Yongjoo Jeon, CEO of Dtonic. “By leveraging our advanced AI data platform expertise and proven global experience, we aim to contribute to the rapid development of smart urban infrastructure across the region.”

Mohamad bin Hamim, Executive Director of Kuala Lumpur City Hall, commented, “We look forward to continued discussions with Dtonic as we advance Kuala Lumpur’s smart city vision. I plan to visit South Korea in July to explore deeper cooperation.”

The project is part of South Korea’s 2025 K-City Network Overseas Demonstration Program, which supports smart city pilot projects in selected global cities. Kuala Lumpur is among six international cities chosen for this year’s program.
