With the creation of Tajamar Cancún, Fonatur aims to reinforce the global positioning of Cancún as a world-class tourist destination

Cancún, the beacon of Fonatur’s success as a development firm, was its very first Integrally Planned Resort. It began operations in 1974 and since then has become perhaps the most important Mexican tourist centre and a household name.

Although Cancún has had more than 30 years of unprecedented success and is known worldwide, investment opportunities in this tropical paradise are far from reaching capacity. Fonatur has already begun planning for the creation of a new residential zone that can only strengthen the already great international positioning of Cancún as a world-class tourist destination.  

The new residential area of Tajamar Cancún has the capacity for up to 5,214 housing units, which will include both hotels and condominiums. Although Cancún certainly does have a reputable nightlife and beach culture that draw in young travellers on holiday or the tourist who is simply young at heart, one must not forget the variety of other recreational activities Cancún offers. With over 30 years of experience, Cancún comprises a wide array of top quality infrastructures that provide many services, including those for water sports such as boating, skiing or kayaking. Cancún is home to perhaps the second most important coral reef in the world, which makes diving and snorkelling very unique experiences. Sport fishing in its clear blue waters is also very popular, and even the golf enthusiast’s experience will be unmatched when playing the 18-hole, par-72 course that overlooks the Caribbean Sea, the Nichupte Lagoon, and several Mayan vestiges.

Last but not least in the way of outdoor activities is the variety of extreme sports Cancún offers the adventurous visitor. As pioneers in this field for Mexico, Cancún is extremely well known for its bungee jumping platforms. Zip lines and exploring the terrain in amphibious vehicles are just a few more popular sports in the area. 

All of this is to say that Cancún is the perfect location for virtually any type of person to spend a holiday. The addition of Tajamar Cancún as a new residential zone will not only appeal to holidaymakers, but it will provide investors with new opportunities to capitalise on the incredible tourist industry already established in Cancún.
