In today’s fast-paced, sedentary world, movement and exercise are becoming increasingly important. Finding the ideal activity and the motivation to persevere can be challenging, especially as people get older. Zen place offers clients yoga and Pilates as low-impact alternatives to traditional strength training with personalized, data-driven progress tracking.
President Naruhiko Ozaki says that motivation is critical and has always been a company focus. “These practices help stimulate a desire to move—they encourage participation in a way that feels approachable and enjoyable,” he says.
While devices that measure body metrics exist, Ozaki says they didn’t have a way to visualize the body’s condition in real time. For the last 15 years, the company has been working with partners to develop measurement tools and, alongside breakthroughs in AI and blockchain technology, has introduced a device that measures the total power of the autonomic nervous system. “The measured data can now be integrated with zen place’s original app through a newly released data linkage system,” he explains. Now, the company can tailor courses in real time to the needs of individual clients.
Zen place is currently working with Fujitsu on an AI capable of scoring gymnastic performances by capturing and evaluating athletes' rapid movements. To improve system accuracy, they are collaborating with the University of Tokyo.
This analysis provides a total power score along with a breakdown of the nervous system, allowing customers to compare the data at a range of intervals, from before and after sessions to more extended periods. Zen place uses this data to analyze trends across different demographics, which gives customers a picture of their health and allows them to work with educators to improve their health.
Looking ahead, the company is exploring how blockchain technology could be utilized to establish a secure, closed community that could be linked to a loyalty or membership system. Blockchain can securely store and manage users’ health data and issue certificates that are verifiably authentic.
Ozaki says zen place is considering licensing the technology to studios. “We don’t refer to it as franchising; instead, we call them cooperative studios,” he states. By leveraging technology alongside exercise, zen place is creating a routine that motivates and provides the data to improve their health.
