“I was born and grew up in a cosmetic factory.” Born in 1935, Tomoji Kanzaki actually lived in a house built by his father, the founder of Nihon Kolmar Co., Ltd., who had a great passion toward cosmetics, within the premises of the small town factory back then until he was married.
After graduating from Doshisha University of Kyoto, Mr Kanzaki joined the family business and contributed to the growth of the company by taking full responsibility for the administrative and sales areas. Since being appointed as President and COO in 2000, the company accelerated its growth by featuring its strong R&D capabilities, resulting in revenue increments for 12 consecutive years.
Regarding management philosophy, Mr Kanzaki places the greatest importance on stability. He has been paying a great deal of attention to not relying too much on specific clients, and trying to diversify the market category and distribution routes of clients so that the company is always stable regardless of variable factors, such as market trend or clients’ business performance.
Mr Kanzaki also devotes his efforts to raising the status of the private label cosmetics contract manufacturing industry, by continuously promoting the concept of “ODM” (original design manufacturing) to add more value, and of “open innovation” to cosmetic brands who should be concentrating more on merchandising their cosmetic products rather than developing and manufacturing them.
While he works hard for the company and for the industry through various sectoral/economic organizations, Mr Kanzaki has also been an active member of the Rotary Club Osaka Riverside for 36 years and joined various social contribution programs not only in Japan, but also in Cambodia, the Philippines, Mexico, and Korea.
