Bio

Professor Sylvestre Ilunga Ilunkamba has held a doctorate in applied economics since 1979, and continues to give courses at the University of Kinshasa to this day. He has been the General Manager of the National Railroad Company of DR Congo (Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer du Congo, SNCC) since March 2014.

Before joining the National Railroad Company of the DRC (SNCC), Professor Ilunkamba held various positions:

  • Director of Cabinet at the Ministry of Planning (1979-1980)
  • Director of Cooperation and International Relations in the Office of the Dean, UNAZA (National University of Zaire, 1980-1981)
  • Vice-Minister of Economy, Industry and Foreign Trade (1981-1983)
  • Vice-Minister of Planning (1983-1984)
  • Vice Minister of Portfolio  (1984-1986)
  • Principal Advisor to the President of the DRC in Economic and Financial Matters (1986-1987)
  • Vice-Minister of Planning (1987-1990)
  • Minister of Planning (1990)
  • Minister of Finance (1990-1991)
  • Partner/Director of RETIMEX (a company specialized in the mobilizing financing with Equator Bank, and in imports and exports of non-ferrous metals of the DRC), Cape Town, South Africa (1993-2003)
  • In 2003, he was appointed Executive Secretary of the Committee to Reform the Companies of the State Portfolio (COPIREP), the post that he occupied until 2014.
  • He was appointed as General Manager of SNCC in March 2014.
