Motokuni Takaoka

Founder & CEO

Company
airweave

Bio

I am the founder & CEO of Airweave, the leading manufacturer of premium bedding products.  I founded Airweave in 2007 after taking over my uncle’s company. It was a manufacturer of plastic injection molding machine for fishing lines, but I reinvented its purpose, using the resins to develop high-quality mattresses.

Education

B.E in Applied Physics from Nagoya University (Japan)

M.B.A. from Keio University (Japan)

M.S. Engineering from Stanford University

*above in chronological order

Experience

From the time before founding Airweave, I have been the President & CEO of Nippon Kouatsu Electric Co.,Ltd, a company I succeeded from my father. I had also been the outside auditor of eAccess Ltd., an Internet service provider which is now merged to the Softbank Group, and a director of various associations in Japan, such as Chubu Economic Federation and Japan Stanford Association.

Areas of Expertise

What have been the main lessons you have learned in your career and how do you implement them in your management?

The main lesson in my career is that I know nothing. I doubt I can be successful in business without help from others who have different ideas and experiences – thus I strive for having diversity in the management team and staff members.

Mentors

I have a couple of good old friends who I’d like to call my mentors. They have helped me to be who I am today, both mentally and intellectually.

Quotes

To be the “one and only”. It is a theme I apply to every aspect of my life.
