about this company

History

Moengo is a small village near the Cottica river. For at least 3 decades Moengo was the center of the mining activities of Suralco, who constructed the Moengo dock for the export of bauxite and the import of several other goods.

For decades the Moengo dock was one of the busiest docks in the replublic of Suriname. In the late nineties Suralco moved its mining front to the Coermotibo river, the Moengo dock became redundant and was sold to a private company in 1994. The new owners demolished buildings and sold them as scrap.

In 2004, Traymore N.V. bought the dock of Moengo. The dock was rehabilitated and certified in order to be able to facilitate current and future activities in the Moengo area.

The port was officially opened on April 19th, 2008.

Location

The port is located in the eastern part  of the republic of Suriname in the Marowijne district, along the side of the Cottica-river. With the dept of 4.3 meters at low tide and a dept of 6.10 meters at high tide the Cottica river is the replublic of Suriname’s deepest river.

The Moengo port has a compound of 21 ha, situated in a strategic location towards the neighboring French Guyana; it takes about 1 hour to reach ST. Laurent du Maroni.

Accessible to vessels:

The port is accessible by the Cottica river which was surveyed by de Maritime Authority of the republic of Suriname.

Navigability

To increase the accessibility of the Commewijne River the Maritime Authority of the republic Suriname has the intention to dredge the entrance in order to increase the draft of ship coming from Moengo
