Background

Riken Corporation was founded in 1927 for the purpose of commercializing the innovative manufacturing method of piston rings, invented by the Institute of Physical and Chemical Research (also known as “RIKEN”).

Since its foundation, based on its core technical competencies in material science, precision machining, surface treatment technologies and so on, Riken has grown to become a worldwide piston ring supplier and a globally unique corporate group with an ever-expanding product portfolio including automotive parts, thermal engineering and EMC products as well as piping components and other industrial products.

With a broadening product portfolio in addition to piston rings, the company was renamed as "Riken Corporation" in 1979, from the previous "Riken Piston Ring Industries Co."

In 1968, Riken established its first overseas operation and has continued to expand its global operations to date. Riken now has 13 overseas operations that cover most of the major and strategic markets around the world.  Riken now services various global customers in the automotive industry and other sectors.
