RAK Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is one of the oldest Chambers of Commerce in the UAE, as it is the second one lauched after DubaiChamber, and was established pursuant to an Emiri decree by late Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, on October 22nd, 1967, to be the cornerstone organization for trade affairs optimization in the Emirate. At the time, Sheikh Abdul Malik bin Kayed Al Qasimi was appointed Chairman , and as Vice Chairman His Excellency Ali Abdullah Misbah Al-Naimi.
There is no doubt that interest into trade and traders in Ras Al Khaimah is not new, as it backdates to the early fifteenth century AD, at a time when Ras Al Khaimah was named Land of Julphar, being a pioneer in the field of trade in general, and in the maritime trade in particular. Ras Al Khaimah ships seafarers sailed through the Arabian Gulf waters, and extending their famous seafaring to the coasts and outskirts of India and China to esatward, and to the east coast of the African continent to the west.
In the context of the economic boom witnessed by the state in general and the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah in particular, thanks to the directives of His Highness Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, RAK Chamber had to keep pace with the developments, meticulously covered by its services, carefully and constant monitoring the business pool in the emirate and contributing to strengthening economic and social development thereto. To date, RAK Chamber has become a distinctive key player contributing and supporting the national economy, and strengthening a solid base to enable business performance in the implementation of plans and programs for comprehensive economic development and creating a fertile environment for the private sector to effectively and efficiently contribute to the process of business and economic development.
During the last a few years RAK Chamber witnessed significant developments, thanks to the comprehensive care of the economic movement by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and the directives of His Highness Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, and follow up of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Saud Al Qasimi, Crown Prince, as all reflected on the development of RAK Chamber sections, and associate members it serves.
RAK Chamber focused on creating Ras Al Khaimah Exhibition Center in 1997 to support trade and industry and revitalizing all sectors through the set-up of a variety of fairs and exhibitions contributing to the economic boom which has backed higher rates of economic growth and strengthened the economic position of the Emirate. In addition, it has created a new hall for exhibitions in 2010 to meet the requirements of economic development in the emirate.
Moreover, RAK Chamber has strengthened its role in the development of small and medium enterprises through the creation of the Saud bin Saqr Program for Young Business Leaders, in 2007.
It is noteworthy that the Ras Al Khaimah Reconciliation and Commercial Arbitration Center was also established in 2007 to settle commercial disputes. RAK Chamber is an institution of public utility that has a moral personality enjoying administrative and financial autonomy, acting within UAE law, rules and regulations of the Chamber statute, and pursuant decisions issued thereto, as well as upon other local laws and regulations applicable in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.
RAK Chamber is chaired by a Board of Directors composed of ten members, chaired by HE Yousef Obaid Al Neaimi, and under leadership of Mr. Nacer Ahmed Salmeen Director-General.
