Murata Machinery was established as "Nishijin Jacquard Mfg., Partnership" in 1935 in Kyoto, the place of production of the Nishijin brocade (Nishijin Ori) used for kimono obi belts and other applications. The company provides products which contribute to automation of manufacturing and logistics in a variety of fields, including the "Automatic Winders" which brought about landmark improvements in productivity in the global spinning industry, and transport systems for semiconductor plants which support the global semiconductor industry. Company was renamed the Murata Textile Machine Co., Ltd.

Developed turret lathes and began production. Machine Tools Division was established.
