Welcome to the Ministry of Tourism’s web site which is designed to provide current information on the Sultanate and to assist your travel plans and time in Oman.
2012 is a year of optimism for Oman’s tourism sector. It begins with celebrations marking Muscat’s declaration as Arab Tourism Capital 2012. A comprehensive year-round events program is being staged and I encourage you to monitor this site for updates.
The event calendar begins on 26 January with the Muscat Festival which includes Muscat Fashion Week and the Tour of Oman. Another feature will be the Salalah Tourism Festival and Khareef, making Oman’s southern region (Dhofar) a popular destination. These world class events make Oman a year-round destination.
We are running several campaigns with our industry partners, including Oman Air as it increases its services and extends its network to new destinations like Zurich. A major priority is to make Oman a convenient stop-over on Oman Air’s network. This is a major opportunity for new and seasoned travellers to visit the Sultanate. A stop-over opens many opportunities including an evening at the Royal Opera House Muscat, a cultural event or exploring Oman.
As well, the Ministry’s destination awareness campaign on BBC Worldwide television and web sites is introducing the Sultanate to many people for the first time.
