Since last September 14th you can enjoy in the GPP gallery HER exhibition, a collection of photographs of courage women gathered by the award-winning Matilde Gattoni.
After covering the Second Intifada in Palestine, she was commissioned by the UN to cover the consequences of war and drought on populations of Eritrea and Tajikistan. From that moment Matilde focuses its work on human rights, particularly in countries at war. Matilde is an award-winning French-Italian photographer.
After studying History at the University of Human Sciences in Strasbourg, France, she decided to follow her passion for the visual arts becoming a photographer. In this exhibition Matilde Gattoni includes stories of overcoming women in extreme conditions. War refugees from Eritrea, Kenya and Lebanon, to tsunami survivors in Indonesia or victims of cluster bombs in Laos, Matilde reveal the courage of thousands of women from all over the world.
Matilde’s work has been exhibited at the Festival in Tampere Backlight, The Annenberg Space for Photography in Los Angeles, European Parliament in Brussels, La Feltrinelli in Milan and Rome, Photographica Gallery in San Francisco, Fondazione Pirelli Milan and, until next October 30, in the gallery GPP in Alserkal Avenue.
After visiting 35 countries in 15 years, the photographer gets to build a strong relationship between all women, despite the difference in culture and origins. HER is a tribute to the courage and ability to face seemingly insurmountable challenges, war damage or natural disasters. HER is an ode to all women, an invisible backbone of communities and families.
